A 1.5 mm galvanised steel sheet is roughly equivalent to 16 gauge in the standard steel sheet gauge system, specifically the Manufacturers’ Standard Gauge. However, it’s important to recognise that gauge values are approximate and may vary slightly depending on the country or specification system used.

In metric-based markets such as Europe and Australia, thickness is usually specified directly in millimeters, and 1.5 mm is commonly used for medium-duty fabrication where higher stiffness and durability are required compared to 1 mm sheets.

A 1.5 mm galvanised mild steel sheet provides more rigidity and strength than thinner sheets like 1.0 mm or 0.8 mm. With a typical tensile strength of 270–350 MPa, it can withstand moderate structural pressure and impacts.

Specifically, a 1.5 mm galvanised steel sheet:

• Resists warping and vibration better than lighter gauges
• Can be used for machine covers, toolboxes, support brackets, and reinforced cladding

To ensure the 1.5 mm sheet maintains a consistent profile throughout its entire length and width, we use automated rolling and inline thickness monitoring, enabling dimensional tolerances as tight as ±0.02 mm. This is essential for downstream applications like machinery enclosures or modular panel systems.

• Optimised Zinc Layer Bonding

The steel substrate undergoes a controlled pre-treatment and fluxing phase before galvanisation to ensure that the zinc layer (typically Z120–Z180g/m² for this thickness) adheres smoothly without blistering or micro-cracking.

• Low-Stress Leveling for Sheet Flatness

After galvanising, the 1.5 mm sheets undergo a low-tension leveling process to relieve internal stress. This helps prevent sheet warping or waviness, which is crucial for large-surface installations like equipment casings or building facades.
