1060 Steel Plate

1060 Steel Plate

Known for its high strength and hardness, 1060 steel plate is a high-carbon steel with about 0.60% carbon content. It offers better internal quality and improved mechanical properties. 1060 steel plate provides a good balance between performance and cost. This high-carbon grade material responds well to flame hardening, making it widely used in wear-resistant tracks and other applications where surface hardness of carbon steel is enhanced through flame hardening. Its physical and thermal properties have advantages over similar steels.

More Details

Advantages

High Intensity and Wear Resistance

The high carbon content gives 1060 steel plate high hardness and strength, while manganese enhances its plasticity and toughness, and silicon improves its wear resistance.

Heat Treatment Adaptability

The 1060 steel plate can adapt flexibly to various processing treatments, and its properties can be modified through processes such as normalizing, quenching, and tempering. By adjusting processing parameters, it can meet different strength and toughness requirements.

Excellent Machining Performance

The cutting performance of 1060 steel plate is good, with machining efficiency 15%-20% higher than that of alloy steel. Its welding performance is superior to that of high-carbon steel. By using preheating and air cooling after welding, cracks can be avoided.

Cost Advantage

The cost is about half that of alloy steel and doesn’t need expensive alloy elements like chromium and nickel, providing a high overall cost-performance ratio. The processing energy use is low, leading to significant energy savings.

Applications

Mechanical Manufacturing

The high strength and toughness of 1060 steel plate make it suitable for manufacturing high-stress components such as shafts, spring rings, wheel axles, washers, and cams.

Automotive Industry

1060 steel plate is used in body structural components, drive shafts, and suspension system springs, which can reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency while ensuring safety.

Shipbuilding

1060 steel plate is commonly used in hull structures and deck supports, and it has better corrosion resistance to seawater than ordinary carbon steel.

Treatments

1060 steel plates (medium-high carbon steel) can be optimized for performance through the following processes to meet different scene requirements.

Heat treatment

Annealing: Relieves internal stress, reduces hardness, improves plasticity, and enhances machinability.

Normalizing: Refine grain structure and increase strength and hardness.

Quenching + Tempering: Improve wear resistance and toughness.

Surface treatment

Galvanizing: Corrosion-resistant.

Spraying (PVDF/powder): Corrosion-resistant and aesthetically pleasing.

Phosphating: Enhances the adhesion of the coating.

Carburizing/Nitriding: Strengthen surface hardness and wear resistance.
