Hot Rolled Steel Sheet & Coil
Hot Rolled Steel Sheet & Coil
Hot rolled steel sheets and coils (HRC)—also known as HR steel sheets, hot rolled mild steel sheets, and flat hot rolled steel—are produced by rolling steel slabs at high temperatures, typically between 1000–1700°F (540–930°C). This process enhances plasticity and eliminates the need for secondary heating. As the steel cools, it normalizes naturally, reducing internal stress.
Hot Rolled Steel Sheet features a rough mill scale surface and relatively loose dimensional tolerances. Though not visually refined, it offers solid mechanical performance.
Hot Rolled Steel Coil is produced by coiling sheets after hot rolling. It has a bluish-black, oily surface. Prioritizing strength over appearance or precision, it’s a cost-effective choice for construction, automotive chassis, machinery, pipelines, and pressure vessels.

Hot Rolled Steel Coil & Sheet Manufacturing Process
- Heating:Steel slabs or billets are heated to 1100–1250 °C in a furnace above the recrystallization temperature to ensure plasticity.
- Descaling: High-pressure water jets remove surface scale (oxide layer) before rolling to improve surface quality.
- Rough & Finish Rolling: The heated slab passes through 4–15 rolling stands, reducing thickness while keeping temperatures above 900 °C.
- Laminar Cooling: After laminar cooling, the strip undergoes leveling to relieve internal stress and improve flatness.
- Coiling or Cutting: The steel is either coiled into rolls (for coils) or cut into flat lengths (for plates and sheets).
- Surface Treatment (Optional): Depending on the application, optional treatments include acid pickling, eco-pickling, or light skin passing to enhance surface finish.
