Mild Steel Hot Rolled Sheet

Mild Steel Hot Rolled Sheet

Mild steel hot-rolled sheet is made from low-carbon steel (with less than 0.25% carbon) using high-temperature rolling. It has simple manufacturing, high efficiency, and low cost. This material offers excellent plasticity, toughness, and weldability, making it easy to work with—perfect for bending, stamping, and welding.

It is widely used in construction, machinery, bridges, and shipbuilding—especially for structural components, frames, supports, containers, and general engineering applications.

Difference between hot-rolled mild steel and cold-rolled mild steel

Hot-rolled steel is processed at high temperatures, resulting in a rougher surface and looser tolerances. Cold-rolled steel is further processed at room temperature for tighter tolerances and a smoother finish. Hot rolled is better for structural use; cold rolled is ideal when surface quality matters.

Can mild steel hot-rolled sheets be welded?

Yes, they offer excellent weldability and are widely used in welded structural applications. Make sure to clean mill scale or oil before welding.

Are pickled and oiled sheets better than standard hot rolled?

HRPO sheets have cleaner surfaces and better corrosion resistance, making them more suitable for painting or longer storage. However, they are slightly more expensive than untreated hot-rolled sheets.
